FAQs
What kind of residences are you planning to build?
Our first home will house six individuals. We plan to expand the community by building additional homes based on the funds raised and property capacity. The total number of homes depends on the amount of funding raised and what the property will support. There are currently 85 individuals with IDD from Emmet and Charlevoix counties who are housed outside of our area because of a lack of housing here.
What ages do you serve?
Our residential services will provide housing for adults with IDD ages 18 or older.
Who do you believe will be able to live successfully in your community?
Our community is designed for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who can thrive with the supports we offer.
What services will Ann’s Nest provide for residents?
Our homes will be staffed by trained caregivers and will work with resident case workers to meet their personal needs.
“By learning from other organizations that are already doing this–and doing it well–I believe we have a good model for moving forward. I’m confident this project will be good for the residents and our community as a whole.”
Where are you planning to build your community?
We are currently looking for 7-15 acres of land in Emmet County.
What will it cost to build your community?
The specific costs will depend greatly on the land that we decide to purchase. The cost of our first home is estimated at $1.5 million. Following that, our activity center’s costs will depend on finalized plans.
Who do you believe may not be able to live successfully in your community?
Due to staffing and licensing constraints, residents with high behavioral or medical needs may not be able to be successfully accommodated at Ann’s Nest. We will be working with local case workers and Community Mental Health (CMH) providers to determine the best milieu of residents in each living space.
How is Ann’s Nest going to pay to build its setting?
Ann’s Nest seeks support from generous donors to make this mission possible. We are working to secure funding from a variety of public and private foundations and individuals. Once the first Ann’s Nest group home is built, residents’ caregiving and rent costs will be subsidized through government funding sources such as Medicaid and Social Security.
Will the homes be for rent or for sale?
Our first home will be a group home and residents will pay a monthly fee for room and board. We may offer additional housing options in the future.
What will it cost residents to live in your setting?
Our monthly rental rate will be based on the annual amount allotted to individuals to cover their room and board.
How will residents pay to live at your setting?
Residents will pay using resources such as Social Security Income to cover room and board and Medicaid funds to cover staffing.
